The following letter from Mr. Habib Afram, President of Syriac Universal Alliance, was sent to the US Census Bureau on the occasion of the challenge by extremists from the Eastern Assyrian community to the new ancestral ethnic designation, Assyrian/Chaldean/Syriac; the category under which members of the Syriac, Chaldean, and Assyrian communities will be counted during US Census 2000.
