"Chaldean Town" Declared in Detroit area, Michigan

On Sept. 18, 1999 the Chaldean Federation of America held a festival and declared the Seven Mile area in Detroit, a Chaldean Town. This First Annual Chaldean Town Festival was attended by a large group of Chaldean residents of Detroit area and City of Detroit officials.

The celebration included a clean-up campaign followed by an outdoor Mass  in front of The Sacred Heart Church in 7 Mile Road. This was followed by ethnic festivities including ethnic food, music and dance.

Currently, there's a proposal in front of City of Detroit to rename the streets of the area with names of national heroes and Chaldean towns from northern Iraq. Also, all street names will be written in both English and neo-Aramaic (Syriac).
