Chaldeans On Line

Pictures from the "Land of the Chaldeans"
Nahla Region in Northern Iraq

What you see is a Church bell made out of a bomb's shell standing on the ruins of the original church. The Church of the Chaldean village of "Bezanteya" was leveled out by the regime of Saddam Hussein during the infamous "Anfal" campaign against the Kurdish revolt. During that campaign the regime also sought out the destruction of Chaldean villages in the area so as to force their occupants to migrate to areas under the regime's control. After the 1991 Gulf War and the establishment of no-fly zone over northern Iraq, the residents of "Bezanteya" returned back to their ruined village and in their first step to rebuild their ruined church they started with their "church bell" and what better than making it out of a bomb shell?!
