"Dalale Bridge" in Northern Iraq

"Dalale Bridge" has a mythical nostalgia among Chaldeans. The story goes like this: after several failed attempts to build the bridge, the village elders decided to give a sacrifice (be it human or animal). The agreement was that by a certain hour anyone that enters the village last will be made the sacrifice. "Dalale" was a beautiful young mother, who went out with her dog outside the village and when she returned, the village elders were happy to see the dog trailing her, however, just as she was about to cross the specified time, the dog passed her, so it was her ill fate that she was made the scarifice. Since Dalale was loved by the village folks as well as her in laws and husband, many lamenting songs were made after her. So stays Dalale's body inside the bridge, named after her, holding the bricks of the bridge together to never fall again!
